Recommended Cleaning and Care Products, and Shoe Brushes
For dance shoes, especially high-quality ones like Werner Kern models, you should only use appropriate cleaning and care products. With our tips, you can optimally protect and care for your dance shoes, and with the right shoe brushes, keep them in top condition.
When not wearing your dance shoes, store them in a dustproof bag. Every pair of Werner Kern dance shoes comes with such a dust bag—use it to protect your premium shoes from dirt and dust. Here are additional tips and why you only need two types of shoe brushes for your dance shoes.
Proper Care for Every Material
Brocade
Brocade is a particularly delicate material that can become damaged through frequent contact with other shoes or surfaces. Always store brocade shoes separately in individual bags.
Chevro Leather
Chevro leather is a premium laminated leather that is not fully dyed through. Scratches and scuffs cannot be easily corrected, so store these shoes individually and clean any dirt from the soles using suitable shoe brushes for dance shoes.
Patent Leather
Patent leather dance shoes require care similar to regular street shoes. Remove dirt with a cloth or soft shoe brushes for dance shoes before applying polish or care products. Care should be applied after six to ten wears to restore the shiny finish. Use care products sparingly, and wipe off any residue with a dry, clean cloth after letting them sit.
Nappa Leather
After wearing, thoroughly clean shoes made from nappa leather. Dirt can be wiped off with a cloth or removed with a soft brush. Apply a thin layer of colorless or matching shoe cream, let it absorb for about 30 minutes, and then polish to a shine.
Satin
Satin dance shoes are highly prone to dirt and delicate. Use only very soft shoe brushes or a soft cloth for cleaning; avoid rough sponges, brushes, or harsh cleaning agents. Clean with clear water, possibly mixed with a small amount of colorless shampoo to remove stains. Always clean the entire surface to avoid uneven marks or rings.
Suede
Premium suede should not be cleaned with harsh chemicals or water to avoid discoloration. Use our available crepe shoe brushes for dance shoes, which can be carefully cleaned with warm water afterward.
Suede Soles
Suede soles may become smoother and more slippery over time. To counter this, use specialized shoe brushes like a suede brush to restore the soft texture of the sole and gently remove dirt.
