Shoe care

Even though leather dance shoes are less sensitive in comparison to shoes made of other materials, they still need to be well cared for. Cleaning and care of leather dance shoes is similar to that of normal street shoes.

First of all, any dirt particles should be carefully removed from the shoes. You can either wipe the shoes dry or give them a quick brush down. To maintain the shine and suppleness of the leather, we recommend applying some shoe polish to the shoes as needed. When choosing shoe polish, always pay close attention to the color. If there is no suitable shoe polish at hand, clear shoe polish is also sufficient. The shoe polish should be applied in a thin layer and carefully rubbed off again after a contact time of approx. 30 minutes.

Shoe Care

Caring for your dance shoes starts with their proper storage in the textile bag provided, preferably with a shoe tree or filled with moisture-absorbent paper.

Satin

Satin dance shoes are particularly sensitive to dirt. Under no circumstances should hard brushes, rough sponges or aggressive cleaning products be used to clean satin shoes. The shoes should only be cleaned with a soft cloth and a little water, possibly diluted with a little colourless shampoo. Please make sure that the entire shoe is cleaned, otherwise marks will appear.

Chevro silver, Chevro platinum and Chevro antique

are made of high-quality laminated kidskin that is not dyed through. Scratches and scrapes cannot be removed.

Patent Leather

The care of patent dance shoes is similar to that of normal street shoes. First, coarse dirt should be carefully removed with a cloth or brush. After wearing them six to ten times, some patent-lacquer polish or patent-lacquer care product should be applied. This should be spread thinly on the shoe with a soft sponge and allowed to soak in for about 30 minutes. Subsequently wipe off with a cloth.

Brocade

Brocade is sensitive and may become detached if it comes into frequent contact with other shoes. Always store the individual shoes separately so that they do not rub against each other in the bag or pocket.

Nappa Leather

Clean shoes after wearing by washing or brushing off dirt particles. You can make use of colour co-ordinated or clear shoe polish. Apply a thin layer of shoe polish, leave on for approximately half an hour and then polish shoe.

Suede leather

Suede leather can best be cleaned with a standard crepe shoe brush (see extras in our shop).

Suede soles

Suede outsoles can become slick and slippery over time. With a special roughening brush (see extras in our shop) you can regain the original soft look of the sole by removing dirt and wax through scratching.

Dance shoe accessories

Wire-brush

All Werner Kern dance shoes are fitted with a soft sole made of suede leather, which gives you a good feeling on the dance floor and at the same time allows you to glide light-footed and controlled. However, suede soles become increasingly slippery over time through use on a waxed dancefloor, so they need to be regularly roughened with a special brush. With our high-quality roughening brush, an essential dance shoe accessory, you can roughen and clean your suede soles so that they regain their optimal dancing characteristics. Since suede soles are generally highly durable, you can always freshen them up with the Werner Kern Wire brush and restore them back to perfect condition. Should they still wear out, we will gladly offer you our standard size replacement soles as dance shoe accessories, which a cobbler will cut to the right size for you and fit as good as new.

Suede brush

Of course, you will also find a handy brush to care for and clean velour shoes in Werner Kern's official online dance shoe store. Simply brush over the surface with light pressure, and the suede will regain its original appearance as you remove the dust and dirt.

Carrying bags

In our "Dance Shoe Accessories" section, we also offer a practical carrying bag for dance shoes made of durable and resistant material. The shoe bag is easy to open and close with a zipper, and the ventilation mesh integrated into the side lets the leather breathe during transport so that moisture can escape.

Heel protector

To protect the delicate heel of our high-quality dance shoes, we offer matching heel protectors as dance shoe accessories for the models available in our online store. The heel protectors are available for heels with a height between 3.4 and 9 cm. They are easier to apply if you briefly warm them up - for example, with a hairdryer. In addition to protecting the heels, the protectors also ensure improved adhesion of the heel to the dance floor, thus reducing the risk of slipping on slippery parquet.

Heel tips

If the heel tip has worn off, we have a large selection of replacement heel tips for all of our dance shoes. Like the heel protectors, these are always sold in pairs. Our recommendation: Have a cobbler replace the heel tips, and always replace both heel tips at the same time for the best results.

Our selection of dance shoe accessories also includes buckles with a corresponding snap. The buckles are attached to the strap with a snap fastener and are delivered in pairs. And if you want additional holes in the straps of your dance shoes, we recommend our exclusive hole punch pliers. These high-quality dance shoe accessories allow you to achieve particularly precise and clean work and professional results.
